Detailed and true to life Friedrich Neubauer depicts the young woman resting on a light brown blanket. The diagonal partition of the painted surface is striking. It is carried through by the drapery of the blanket on whose lower half the woman is resting in the full light. Face and background seem to merge in red-brown. A fruit bowl at the model´s feet as well as the elegant dark shoes with their intense splendor place special emphasis on this part of the picture. The incident light in the foreground is reflected at the upper rim of the picture. The scenic high-contrast play of light gives the depicted scene space and deepness.
