Art collections of the city of Nuremberg The reconstruction works on the building from the late Gothic and Renaissance periods lasted _almost six years. The first floor houses besides other rooms the refurbished council hall with its high Gothic windows. Unfortunately the mural paintings by Albrecht Durer depicting the triumphal procession of the emperor did not outlast the devastating fire during World War II. Plans to reconstruct the murals have so far not been carried out. In the basement of the building there are the “Lochgefängnisse”, i.e. the torture chambers and dungeons from medieval times."
