During the time of the Third Reich it was not possible for German artists to join the international development of Modern Art. The official quarters considered abstraction to be degenerated art. Friedrich Neubauer had to take on this concept as well. The concept of art pointing already to Modernism that expresses itself in “Painter and Model” and “Street Construction” in 1932 and 1933 is replaced by pictures of flowers and interiors. Exuberant colors give the picture a cheerful character, the dominating complementary colors of red and grey, respectively blue and yellow create tension.
